Blockchain Gaming Visionary CiDi Games Outlines Ambitious Strategy on Eve of Highly Anticipated Consensus Conference

In a strategic move, CiDi Games unveiled a comprehensive plan on May 3 to establish a gaming ecosystem on the Pi Network, featuring a suite of tools for developers, including a software development kit (SDK) and a web-based gaming platform. This development is particularly noteworthy given that Pi co-founders Chengdiao Fan and Nicolas Kokkalis are scheduled to speak at the Consensus 2026 conference in Miami, which takes place from May 5 to 7, just days after the roadmap's release.

CiDi Games initiated trial operations in the first quarter of 2026, but has yet to disclose key metrics such as player engagement, transaction volumes, and user numbers. The SDK, designed to facilitate seamless integration with Pi's login and wallet system, enables games to leverage HTML5 technology, allowing for instant play without the need for downloads.

This latest development builds upon the partnership between Pi Network and CiDi Games, which was initially announced in November 2025, with a focus on creating a browser-based platform for casual games. The recent roadmap expands on this vision, extending an invitation to external developers to join the ecosystem. Notably, Pi Network Ventures, a $100 million fund that has backed CiDi Games since its early stages, is a key supporter of this initiative.

The Pi Network is entering a highly competitive landscape, with rivals such as Immutable, Ronin, and Sui already established in the market. Immutable boasts gas-free NFT transactions on Ethereum Layer 2, while Ronin, operated by Sky Mavis, offers a dedicated gaming blockchain with its own wallet and marketplace. Sui Foundation, meanwhile, emphasizes high-speed performance and flexible asset design. In contrast, Pi Network's unique selling proposition lies in its accessibility, with browser-based games eliminating the need for downloads or high-end hardware, as well as its unique user base, which has been cultivated through mobile mining and social features.

The release of the roadmap is significant, coming as it does just 48 hours before the Consensus 2026 conference. Furthermore, May 15 marks a critical deadline for all mainnet nodes to complete the Protocol 23 upgrade, which will unlock native smart contract support for the first time since the mainnet launched in February 2025. Failure to comply will result in the loss of validation rights. Additionally, approximately 184.5 million PI tokens are scheduled to be unlocked in May, coinciding with these significant milestones.

While the roadmap provides a clear direction for the project, essential details regarding monetization, scalability, and terms for third-party developers remain unclear. The lack of trial data also indicates that the project is still in its early stages. Nevertheless, the combination of mobile accessibility, instant-play games, and integrated payments could potentially give Pi a competitive edge in the blockchain gaming space, provided it can successfully convert its user base into active players and attract external developers to its platform.
