First Quarter Sees Tokenized Real-World Assets Balloon to Nearly $20 Billion

The crypto landscape is witnessing a significant paradigm shift, driven by the burgeoning market for real-world assets (RWAs). According to CoinGecko's latest report, the total value of tokenized RWAs has skyrocketed to $19.3 billion by the end of Q1 2026, underscoring an unprecedented growth trajectory. This remarkable expansion is largely attributed to the influx of prominent investors, who are increasingly recognizing the potential of blockchain-based financial products.
A closer examination of the data reveals that the RWA market has experienced a staggering growth of over 300% since 2025, with its market capitalization surging from $5.42 billion to $19.3 billion. Notably, the sector's growth has outpaced that of stablecoins, with RWAs now accounting for 6.4% of the total market, up from 2.7% at the beginning of 2025. The number of tokenized offerings has also witnessed a dramatic increase of 256.7% over the past year and a half, signaling a profound shift in the industry.
The report highlights 2025 as a pivotal year for tokenization, marked by the gradual acceptance of early blockchain use cases and the emergence of institutional players. The clarifying regulatory environment has further alleviated uncertainty, enabling companies to adopt a more robust approach to tokenization. As a result, traditional financial institutions and the crypto-native community have been increasingly participating in the tokenization of various assets, including Treasurys, commodities, stocks, and ETFs.
Tokenized Treasuries continue to dominate the RWA sector, with their value soaring by $9 billion, or 225.5%, during the reporting period. This asset class accounted for over 50% of the sector's expansion and represented 67.2% of the total RWA market by the end of Q1 2026, down from 73.7% at the beginning of 2025. The diversification of the industry is evident, with other asset classes gaining traction.
The commodities sector, in particular, has experienced a significant surge, driven by the demand for gold-backed digital assets. The market capitalization of tokenized commodities has grown from $1.4 billion to $5.5 billion, with Tether Gold and PAX Gold leading the charge. The trading volume for gold tokens reached $90.7 billion in Q1 2026, surpassing the $84.6 billion recorded in 2025. By the end of the quarter, tokenized commodities accounted for 28.7% of the total RWA sector.
Meanwhile, tokenized stocks and ETFs have also gained momentum, with the former reaching a market capitalization of approximately $500 million by the end of Q1 2026. Technology-related equities have been at the forefront, as investors seek to access major public companies via blockchain. The spot traded tokens' value has increased to $15.1 billion in Q1 2026, exceeding the $14.8 billion trade volume in the first two quarters of 2025. Tokenized ETFs, although still in their infancy, have shown strong growth trends, with a market capitalization of nearly $300 million and a wider variety of types being launched.
