Franklin Templeton files two Bitcoin DRIP ETFs that funnel stock dividends into BTC

2 min read

Franklin Templeton filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to launch two exchange‑traded funds that will channel dividend income from U.S. equities into Bitcoin exposure.

Fund Architecture and Allocation

The assets manager registered the Franklin US Equity Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF and the Franklin US Innovation Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF. Both products aim to start with roughly 95 % of assets in large‑cap U.S. stocks and 5 % in Bitcoin‑linked investments, using a dividend‑reinvestment plan to direct cash flow toward the cryptocurrency.

Instead of paying dividends to shareholders, each fund will automatically reinvest dividend proceeds into Bitcoin, creating a seamless bridge between traditional equity holdings and the crypto market.

Index Tracking and Quarterly Rebalancing

The US Equity fund will follow the VettaFi US Large Cap 500 Bitcoin DRIP Index, which represents about 500 major U.S. companies. The Innovation fund will track a separate VettaFi index that emphasizes large‑cap firms involved in growth and innovation sectors.

Bitcoin exposure may be achieved through spot Bitcoin ETFs, futures, options, or via a wholly‑owned Cayman Islands subsidiary. The funds will rebalance on a quarterly basis; if Bitcoin’s share exceeds the target, the allocation will be trimmed to approximately 4.5 % to allow future dividend inflows to rebuild the position.

Potential Impact on Investors and the Crypto Market

By linking dividend streams to Bitcoin, Franklin Templeton offers investors a novel way to gain crypto exposure without direct purchase. This structure could attract traditional equity investors seeking blockchain participation while preserving a dominant equity focus.

Market analysts anticipate that the ETFs, if launched by September 1 2026, may influence Bitcoin’s price dynamics and broaden institutional involvement in the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
