Hashgraph and Truesense patent physical‑digital identity

1 min read

The Hashgraph Group and Truesense have jointly filed a European patent application for Continuous Identity Trust Infrastructure (CITI), a system that binds on‑chain digital identity credentials to verified physical presence.

Technical Foundations of CITI

CITI merges ultra‑wideband (UWB) spatial sensing, decentralized identifiers (DIDs), and zero‑knowledge proof (ZKP) cryptography. The UWB module records a person’s exact location, while DID standards anchor the identity on a blockchain. ZKP then creates a privacy‑preserving proof that links the location event to the on‑chain credential without exposing raw data.

The patent was submitted to the European Patent Office in April and spans more than 44 European jurisdictions. A parallel filing is already in progress for the United States, expanding the potential legal coverage for the technology.

Market and Regulatory Outlook

Governments, regulated industries, and blockchain investors view CITI as a bridge between physical access control and decentralized identity solutions. By offering auditable, privacy‑first verification, the framework could lower compliance costs for enterprises and attract capital from investors seeking secure identity infrastructure.

If CITI gains adoption, it may stimulate demand for UWB hardware, DID services, and crypto‑based identity platforms, reshaping the market landscape for privacy‑centric blockchain applications.
