Kucoin Plugs Into Argentina’s Transferencias 3.0, Bringing Crypto to QR Checkouts

1 min read

Kucoin announced on June 22, 2024 that its Kucoin Pay platform will launch in Argentina and Peru, linking crypto and stablecoin transactions to the QR‑code networks that dominate everyday payments in both countries.

Expansion Overview

The rollout targets Argentina’s government‑regulated Transferencias 3.0 system, where QR codes must support multiple digital wallets. By joining this infrastructure, Kucoin Pay lets shoppers scan a single code and settle the bill with crypto, stablecoins, or competing services such as Mercado Pago.

Integration Details

In Peru, Kucoin Pay will interoperate with Yape and Plin, two mobile‑payment apps that have largely displaced cash for peer‑to‑peer and retail transactions. The integration enables blockchain‑based assets to move through the same QR channel used for traditional fiat transfers, creating a seamless user experience across the region.

Implications for Crypto Adoption

Alicia Kao, Managing Director of Kucoin, emphasized that “real‑world utility will define the next phase of crypto adoption, and payments are where this shift becomes most visible.” Investors are watching the South American market closely, as inflation pressures and limited banking access push consumers toward crypto‑enabled wallets, potentially boosting the price stability of digital assets.
