Polygon zkEVM sunset near; withdraw assets by July 1, 2026

1 min read

Polygon Labs has issued a final reminder that the Polygon zkEVM Mainnet Beta sequencer will cease operation on July 1, 2026.

Sunset Timeline and Migration Procedure

Polygon first disclosed the retirement schedule in June 2025, granting users a twelve‑month window to relocate assets. The network and its bridge will stay functional until the July 1 deadline, enabling holders to transfer funds to Ethereum L1 before the sequencer shuts down. Wallet‑owned tokens that remain unbridged after the cutoff will be automatically moved to Ethereum.

Risks for DeFi Participants

Investors with capital locked in decentralized finance protocols face heightened exposure, as those positions cannot be auto‑migrated. Should the sequencer stop processing, locked funds may become inaccessible until users retrieve them manually. Polygon advises protocol users to unwind or migrate their stakes well before the shutdown date.

Support Tools After the Shutdown

A dedicated claim interface will launch after the sequencer is deactivated, allowing eligible wallet holders to claim migrated assets. The platform will continue to monitor the transition to ensure a smooth experience for investors. By adhering to the migration timeline, the crypto community can avoid disruption and preserve value across the Polygon and Ethereum ecosystems.
