Prominent Bitcoin pioneer predicts cryptocurrency will soar to seven-figure value within six years

In a recent conversation, Blockstream's CEO, Adam Back, reaffirmed his longstanding forecast that the value of Bitcoin will skyrocket to $1 million by the spring of 2028. When queried about his short-term outlook on Bitcoin's price, Back expressed caution, noting that predicting fluctuations in the near future is a challenging endeavor. However, he did suggest that the current valuation of around $78,000 underscores a significant undervaluation of the cryptocurrency. As the discussion turned to the prospects for Bitcoin beyond 2026, Back alluded to potential headwinds, including technical glitches that could curtail liquidity and disruptions to exchange operations.

Back's long-term prognosis for Bitcoin remains exceedingly bullish, as evidenced by a wager he inadvertently made on Twitter, in which he predicted that the cryptocurrency would reach the $1 million milestone by the time of the next halving event in the spring of 2028. Furthermore, he posited that Bitcoin could achieve parity with gold within a similar timeframe, observing that while gold has exhibited robust performance over the past year, Bitcoin tends to lag behind before ultimately gaining momentum. According to Back, Bitcoin's price trajectory is characterized by intense positive reflexivity, wherein abrupt price increases create a self-reinforcing cycle that gathers strength as miners reduce their selling activities. Notably, some miners are transitioning to artificial intelligence-based operations, a development that Back believes will ultimately benefit the remaining miners and lead to a convergence of profitability between Bitcoin mining and AI-driven workloads.
