Strategy May Sell Bitcoin to Fund STRC Dividend, Says Saylor

Strategy, the publicly traded business intelligence company with the largest known corporate Bitcoin holding, said it may sell part of its Bitcoin treasury. Executive Chairman Michael Saylor made the statement during the company's first-quarter 2026 earnings call on 06 May 2026. Strategy held 818,334 Bitcoin as of 03 May 2026.

Sales linked to STRC preferred stock dividendSaylor said any Bitcoin sale would fund a dividend on the company's STRC preferred stock. Preferred stock is a class of company share that pays fixed dividends before common stockholders receive any payment. Saylor described the potential sale as a way to "inoculate the market."

Company reframes "never sell" position as net accumulationIn a prior interview, Saylor stated Strategy would never sell Bitcoin. President and Chief Executive Officer Phong Le clarified the company's updated position on the same earnings call. Le said Strategy's goal is to remain a net accumulator of Bitcoin. Net accumulation means the company buys more Bitcoin over time than it sells in total.

Peter Schiff labels the model a Ponzi structureGold investor and economist Peter Schiff, Chief Executive Officer of Euro Pacific Capital, publicly criticised Strategy's approach on 06 May 2026. Schiff called the STRC preferred stock structure a Ponzi scheme. A Ponzi scheme is a model where returns to existing investors come from new investor funds rather than from genuine business revenue. Schiff predicted Strategy would suspend the STRC dividend before selling Bitcoin if forced to choose between the two.
